Jon Pritchett, MD
Jon Pritchett, MD is a dedicated and versatile family medicine physician with a strong background in sports medicine and a broad range of clinical experience. Born and raised in a small town in central Illinois, Dr. Pritchett began his academic journey at the University of Richmond in Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine. As a collegiate athlete, he played football for the Division 1 Richmond Spiders and served as team captain, demonstrating leadership skills early on.
Dr. Pritchett went on to attend medical school at the University of Illinois at Rockford, where he excelled academically, graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha honors and serving as student board president. Following medical school, he completed his residency at UC Davis’s Mercy Redding Family Medicine Residency Program, where he further distinguished himself by serving as Chief Resident in his final year.
Dr. Pritchett’s clinical interests are diverse and include sports medicine, preventative medicine, urgent care, pediatrics, and wilderness medicine. His professional experience spans a wide range of family medicine, encompassing emergency medicine in rural and remote communities, as well as hospital and office-based care.
In his current roles, Dr. Pritchett serves as the Medical Director for Vital Health Medical Group and also as the Medical Director of Wolf Creek Care Center, a skilled nursing facility in Grass Valley, California. His leadership and comprehensive approach to patient care make him a key figure in the medical community, particularly in the areas of family and sports medicine.
When not at work, you will likely find Dr. Pritchett outdoors, riding his bike in the high country, hiking, skiing or backpacking. He lives in Nevada County with his wife, 3 teenage children and 3 dogs.
Claire Leve, MD
Dr. Claire Leve is a highly experienced physician with over 25 years of practice in the fields of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Obstetrics & Gynecology; with a particular focus on adult women’s care. Born and raised in Nevada City, California, Dr. Leve has deep roots in her community and a longstanding commitment to providing high-quality healthcare.
Dr. Leve graduated with honors from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 2000 and completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Hawaii. She is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), reflecting her expertise and dedication to women’s health. In addition to her specialization in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr. Leve has extensive knowledge in Anesthesiology, Family Medicine, Hematology, Hematology/Oncology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Rheumatology.
Currently enrolled with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Dr. Leve is affiliated with several hospitals, including Oroville Hospital and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, and she collaborates closely with a network of doctors and specialists in Nevada County.
Outside of her medical practice, Dr. Leve is passionate about the outdoors and is actively engaged in activities like hiking and river rafting, enjoying the natural beauty of Nevada County. Sergio R. Riffel, MD
Dr. Sergio R. Riffel is a highly experienced internal medicine physician with over four decades of medical practice, specializing in primary care and urgent care for adults. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Montemorelos in Mexico in 1980 and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at White Memorial Medical Center/Loma Linda University, where he served as Chief Resident from 1990 to 1992.
Throughout his career, Dr. Riffel has held multiple clinical and hospital appointments across California, Maine, and Oregon, including serving as an Internal Medicine Specialist at renowned institutions such as Loma Linda University Medical Center and Maine General Medical Center. He has extensive experience in outpatient care, hospitalist roles, and emergency medicine, having worked in diverse settings, including rural and underserved communities. Dr. Riffel has also contributed to public health as an Interim Health Officer for Douglas County, Oregon, and as a mission physician in Nepal.
A lifelong learner, Dr. Riffel has pursued continuing medical education from prestigious institutions such as Harvard Medical School and the Mayo Clinic. He holds certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and has passed the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners Exam. He is a lifetime member of the American Association of Family Physicians and the Loma Linda University School of Medicine Alumni Association.
Dr. Riffel is fluent in both English and Spanish, allowing him to provide exceptional care to a diverse patient population. His dedication to preventive medicine, community health outreach, and delivering quality care has earned him accolades, including the Health Management Coalition Award in 2007.
In his personal life, Dr. Riffel was born in Argentina and is married with four children. He continues to be committed to serving communities in need and advancing the field of internal medicine. Inder M. Singh, M.D., M.S.
Inder M. Singh, M.D., M.S., is a highly esteemed Interventional Cardiologist with board certifications in both Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology. With over a decade of experience, Dr. Singh has been providing top-tier cardiovascular care to patients in Sacramento, California, and Houston, Texas. His approach to medicine is deeply patient-centered, emphasizing the importance of treating the individual rather than just the disease. Dr. Singh believes in connecting with each patient on a personal level to deliver integrated and holistic care.
Professional roles and experience include the former Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory & Structural Heart Disease at Adventist Health Heart & Vascular Institute. Board Membership: Served on the Mercy Foundation Board of Dignity Health. Academic Role: Associate Clinical Professor of Cardiology at California North State University College of Medicine in Sacramento, and Attending Cardiologist: Has been an attending Interventional Cardiologist at Dignity Heart & Vascular Institute in Sacramento since 2010.
Dr. Singh’s Training and Education included completing his residency training at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and his Interventional Cardiovascular Fellowship training at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
Dr. Singh specializes in a wide range of cardiovascular and endovascular services, including comprehensive cardiac care and the management of complex heart conditions. Micah Diaz Berry, MD
Dr. Micah Diaz Berry is a highly accomplished orthopedic surgeon with a distinguished background in both clinical practice and academic research. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, he began his academic journey at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology. During his undergraduate studies, Dr. Berry was deeply involved in research, focusing on the molecular genetics of bone tissue engineering. His commitment to scholarship earned him both college and departmental honors.
Dr. Berry went on to attend Harvard Medical School, where he continued to pursue his research interests, concentrating on orthopedic oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital. His work in this field resulted in multiple publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, further establishing his reputation as a dedicated physician-scientist.
After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Berry returned to Los Angeles to complete his Orthopedic Surgery residency at the University of Southern California. While training at LAC+USC Medical Center, he developed a strong clinical interest in orthopedic traumatology. This passion led him to pursue advanced subspecialty training through a dual fellowship at Stanford University, where he trained in orthopedic trauma surgery and anterior total hip arthroplasty.
Today, Dr. Berry focuses on disorders of the hip, knee, and shoulder, with a subspecialty emphasis on complex fracture management and trauma care. William Childs, Ultrasound Tech

We are pleased to offer ultrasound services provided by William “Bill” Childs, a caring and highly experienced ultrasound professional who puts patients at ease through every step of their exam.
Bill brings over 54 years of experience in non-invasive diagnostic ultrasound. He is fully trained to perform cardiovascular, abdominal, specialized and lower extremity ultrasound examinations, helping support accurate diagnosis and ongoing care. His career began in the U.S. Navy, where he received his ultrasound training and later served in senior roles at major medical centers in Southern California. Over the years, he has worked in respected hospitals, contributed to medical research, and shared his knowledge as a lecturer in the field of echocardiography.
While Bill’s experience is extensive, patients most often appreciate his gentle approach, patience, and clear communication. He understands that medical tests can feel stressful, and he takes the time to explain procedures, answer questions, and ensure each patient feels safe, respected, and comfortable.
Later in his career, Bill chose to focus on bringing high-quality ultrasound care directly into rural primary care settings, allowing patients—especially seniors—to receive needed exams close to home, without the burden of long travel or unfamiliar environments.
Outside of medicine, Bill enjoys the peaceful life of his horse ranch and spending time with his family in Northern California. This balance of professional dedication and personal grounding reflects the calm, thoughtful care he brings to every patient encounter.

Doug Stone is the owner and lead clinician of Vital Health Primary Care Medical Clinic in Penn Valley, California, where he provides comprehensive, patient-centered care that integrates both primary care and behavioral health services. Dual-licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), Doug specializes in holistic, integrated care models designed to improve access and outcomes for rural and underserved communities.
Doug earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Samuel Merritt University. He holds an MBA from Stanford University, along with multiple graduate degrees in Nursing, Human Resources, and Strategic Planning. Most recently, Doug completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Missouri State University, reinforcing his focus on evidence-based practice, clinical leadership, and healthcare systems improvement.
Before transitioning to healthcare, Doug served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of Major General. He completed more than 60 months of combat and operational duty in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and led large-scale organizations, including major base and hospital operations. His military experience continues to inform his disciplined, mission-driven approach to leadership and patient care.
Following his military service, Doug developed extensive clinical experience in emergency medicine, intensive care, and inpatient psychiatric settings. He played a key role in establishing an Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) program at an acute mental health hospital, expanding access to advanced psychiatric treatment for patients with severe and treatment-resistant mental illness.
Doug is also a published author and advocate for rural healthcare innovation. He is the author of The Heart of Rural Medicine and Instinct-Informed Integrated Therapy, along with several other medical publications. His work supports his success in expanding access to integrated primary and behavioral healthcare in rural areas, ensuring patients receive timely, comprehensive care close to home.
In addition to his clinical and leadership roles, Doug serves as a part-time professor at Chamberlain University, where he teaches and advises students in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner programs. Through his combined experience in military leadership, clinical practice, education, and scholarship, Doug Stone continues to advance equitable, integrated healthcare models that improve outcomes for patients and communities alike.
Karen Greenhaw, FNP-C
Karen Greenhaw, FNP-C is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with more than 24 years of experience delivering comprehensive, compassionate, patient-centered care. She provides care to patients across the lifespan, from pediatrics to geriatrics, with particular expertise in wound care, women’s health, chronic disease management, and the management of complex medical conditions.
Karen earned her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California. She holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from Chabot College and a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts and Humanities from Scripps College. She is certified by the American Board of Wound Management and maintains advanced life support and prescribing credentials.
Practicing with full practice authority in California, Karen has extensive experience in primary care, internal medicine, skilled nursing facilities, and home-based and rural healthcare settings. She has served as a sole provider in multiple clinical environments, precepted nurse practitioner students, and emphasizes evidence-based, collaborative care focused on long-term health and quality of life.
Outside of clinical practice, Karen enjoys living in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where she enjoys all of her animals and embraces an active rural lifestyle. She is also a musician and plays violin in a local bluegrass band, reflecting her lifelong appreciation for the arts and community connection.
Kathryn Cole, MSN, RN, PMHNP

Donna Murtaugh, NP
Donna Murtaugh, NP, brings more than 40 years of dedication to nursing, advanced practice care, and clinical leadership.
Her healthcare journey began at the age of 16, when she started as a candy striper at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where she was employed for many years as a BSRN. Established in 1874, the hospital is one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic medical centers and is internationally recognized for excellence in medical research, advanced surgical care, transplantation, oncology, cardiology, and patient-centered innovation. This early exposure to a world-class healthcare environment sparked Donna’s lifelong passion for nursing.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania, and later expanded her professional expertise through evening studies at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, earning her Associate in Business Administration (ABA) in 1999. Donna completed her graduate nursing education at Thomas Jefferson University, a private health sciences institution established in 1824 and nationally known for leadership in medical education, clinical excellence, and healthcare innovation. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in 2007 as an Adult-Health Nurse Practitioner and worked at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for several years.
Prior to relocating to California, Donna owned and operated a clinical research company that supported drug clinical trials for large pharmaceutical companies, contributing to the advancement of evidence-based medicine and therapeutic innovation.
Since 2012, Donna has been practicing in Nevada County, California, where she has provided comprehensive primary care services to thousands of patients, both in outpatient settings and within skilled nursing facilities. In addition to her primary care practice, she provides cosmetic and medical laser services for Vital Health Medical Group, performing all laser-based cosmetic and medical based procedures using the state-of-the-art Viora V30 system.

Heather B. Cruz is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) with over 20 years of experience in the health and wellness field. She brings a uniquely integrative background that spans physical therapy, crisis intervention, mental health, and nutritional therapy. Heather holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA) and is also a certified Restorative Wellness Specialist (RWS).
Heather began her career in physical therapy before transitioning into mental health, where she spent more than a decade supporting individuals in acute crisis. During graduate school, her own personal health challenges led her to explore nutritional therapy. Donna holds a Master’s degree in Counseling with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University. Amanda McArthur is a dedicated healthcare professional currently serving as the Chronic Care Management (CCM) Manager at Vital Health Medical Group, a primary care facility located in Penn Valley. She has been with the organization since September 2024, where she plays a vital role in coordinating care for patients with chronic conditions and supporting the daily operations of the medical practice.
With over a decade of experience in healthcare, Amanda brings extensive knowledge in chronic care management, adult medicine, geriatric care, patient coordination, medical records, and office administration. Her professional background includes many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), where she provided hands-on care to older adults and developed a deep compassion for supporting patients through all stages of aging. Brooke Jungi, Practice Manager
Brooke Jungi is the Practice Manager for Vital Health Medical Group. She has over 20 years of experience in the medical field where she has earned a robust and dedicated career rooted in patient care and healthcare management. Brooke’s journey began as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a local nursing home, where she first developed a passion for helping others. As a Medical Assistant (MA) for many years, she worked her way up to a management position, demonstrating her commitment to growth and leadership within the healthcare industry. Brooke enhanced her medical expertise by becoming a nationally certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), broadening various skills in patient care and emergency response. In addition to being an EMT and with practice management skills, Brooke became a certified expert in medical Billing through DeVry University where she learned specialized skills in medical coding and billing, contributing to the efficient and accurate management of healthcare operations.

Brooke is married with four children and has a strong commitment to family values. She enjoys the outdoors and has a passion for crafting of all sorts, which provides a creative outlet outside of her professional responsibilities.
