ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Doug Stone brings a rare and powerful blend of clinical expertise, military leadership, and human compassion to the front lines of rural healthcare. He holds doctoral degrees in Public Administration (University of Southern California) and Nursing Practice (University of Missouri), along with advanced degrees in Business and Human Resources Management from Stanford and Pepperdine Universities.
A retired U.S. Marine Corps General, Doug’s service, marked by close coordination with medical systems in both combat and peacetime, led to international recognition for advancing ethical treatment protocols for foreign combatants. These experiences shaped his enduring focus on leadership, ethics, resilience, and humane care. His post-military career spans leadership roles as CEO of innovative software companies, lead faculty in psychology and nursing at a national nursing school, and years of clinical practice in emergency medicine and behavioral health.
He is dual-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP/DNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), uniquely positioned to deliver integrated, whole-person care.
Today, as founder and lead provider at Vital Health Medical Group in Penn Valley, California, Doug delivers comprehensive lifespan care to underserved rural populations. His clinical work addresses a broad spectrum of physical, psychiatric, and co-occurring conditions with a mission-driven commitment to accessibility, dignity, and compassion.
In this book, Doug shares not only professional insights but also a personal calling-to bring dignity, compassion, and practical solutions to rural healthcare. His voice is one of hope, grounded in experience, and dedicated to the healing of individuals and communities alike.
